After the rain
A comparison of surfaces under soft light.

Imagined landscape illustration; not a map of this activity.
Keep the route familiar
Wait for conditions that make a short walk comfortable. Stay on ordinary firm paths. Choose two materials you expect to find nearby, such as stone and painted metal, rather than searching for an unusual location.
Compare dry and damp
Find a surface with both dry and damp areas. Make a frame that shows the boundary. Then change your viewing angle and observe how reflections alter the apparent brightness.
Find one warm accent
Look for a small colour that stands out from the cooler surroundings. Give it enough space to be legible. A leaf, a sign or a patch of brick can provide the focal point.
Keep the comparison
Select two or three pictures and label the materials. Note the light and viewpoint. Avoid assuming that the wettest or brightest image is the best; choose the one that makes the observation clear.
